In order to perform an SEO audit of a website, a project is required in SERPtimizer. A specific project for your website has already been created during registration. You can create further projects for additional websites, e.g. from your customers.

But before we start, we will first check the settings of the crawler.

Configuration of the SEO Audit Crawler

Under the project settings you will find basic settings for crawling the selected website.

Tab Project / SEO Audit

Here you will find all the important settings for the SEO Audit Crawler.

  • Project Name
A name for the current project
  • Project URL
The URL of the website for the SEO audit. You can also create multiple projects for further SEO audits by clicking on "Add Project" in the project selection.
  • Crawl Subdomains
This checkbox determines whether subdomains of the URL should be crawled or treated as external links.
  • Crawler Waiting Time
Pause in milliseconds that the crawler keeps at least when reading the next page in order to save the resources of your page.

Tab SEO Audit Severity

Here you can change the severity level for each SEO audit issue between 'Error', 'Warning', 'Info' or 'Ignore'.

When clicking on a category, you can set the severity level for each error. If you set the severity level to 'Ignore', these will no longer be displayed.

Tab SEO-Monitoring

If the 'Recurring Crawling' checkbox is activated in this tab under SEO Audit, the SEO audit is automatically executed in the specified number of days -> 'Frequency' and the result is sent to the specified email.

Perform the SEO Audit

But now let's start crawling the website. The crawler supports two methods. These are the manual crawling that you can perform immediately at any time and the automatic crawling that is performed regularly.

Manual SEO Audit

Under Dashboard, select the project (here: example.com) for which you want to perform an SEO audit. Click the Crawl button to start the audit.

Automatic SEO Audit

With automatic crawling, the website is crawled at fixed intervals and checked for errors. You will receive a report about the result of the SEO audit. Automatic crawling is activated in the SEO Monitoring tab.

Evaluation of the SEO Audit results

In the dashboard under SEO Audit Issues you will find an overview of the issues found.

When you click on an issue, you will be redirected to the corresponding view, where the individual pages with this issue are shown.

When you click Ignore, the severity of the SEO Audit issue is changed and thus not displayed again. This decision can be reset under tab SEO Audit Severity.
